Nearly every vehicle built since the late 1990s carries a transponder — a passive chip in the key head that answers a challenge from a coil around the ignition. Get the right answer and the engine control module releases fuel and spark. Get a wrong answer, or no answer, and the car cranks and dies.

Cloning where it is supported
On many platforms we can copy your existing chip's identity onto a new key. The vehicle sees an identical key, so no programming session is needed and your existing keys are untouched.

Identify the chip
Transponder families are not interchangeable. We confirm the exact chip type from your VIN so the right blank is on the van.

Cut the blade
Cut to your factory key code so the mechanical fit matches the original.

Clone or program
We take the cloning route where the platform supports it, because it is faster and leaves your existing keys alone. Otherwise we run a programming session.

Verify
We start the vehicle, then shut it down and restart from cold to confirm the immobilizer is genuinely satisfied rather than temporarily bypassed.
Transponder Key Programming — common questions
Why won't my hardware store copy start the car?
Because it has no transponder chip. The copy is mechanically correct, so it turns the ignition cylinder, but the immobilizer gets no valid response and cuts fuel. That is exactly the behavior you are seeing when the engine turns over for a second and dies.
How do I know if my key has a chip?
Almost every vehicle from 1998 onward does. A plastic head thicker than the blade needs is the usual giveaway. If your car cranks but will not start with a copied key, that is a transponder fault by definition.
Does programming a new key erase my old ones?
On most vehicles, no — we add the new key alongside the existing ones. Some Honda, Acura, and older Toyota and Lexus systems do erase all keys during a programming session, which means every key you own must be present. We check your platform first and tell you before we begin.
Can you do this without towing my car to a dealer?
Yes. That is the entire point of what we do. All transponder work happens at your vehicle.
