Volkswagen protects its key data more aggressively than almost any mainstream brand, and the protection has tightened with each immobilizer generation. Earlier cars can often be programmed through the diagnostic port. Later MQB-platform vehicles cannot — the security data has to be extracted from the instrument cluster or the engine module directly.
That distinction is the whole reason most Louisville locksmiths turn VW work away, and it is why a Jetta that lost its keys frequently ends up on a tow truck heading to a dealership.
Key Squad handles both routes. We identify which generation your car uses from the VIN before we dispatch, so the correct equipment is already on the van.

Current-platform Volkswagens require component-level data extraction when every key is lost. It is a multi-hour job and we quote it honestly rather than discovering it at your driveway.
VW modules are cryptographically paired to the vehicle. Any module swap requires adaptation, which we perform as part of the work.
VW uses internal-track (laser-cut) blades on most modern models, which need a milling machine rather than a standard duplicator. Ours rides in the van.
Not an exhaustive list — if your model isn’t shown, call and ask.
